Ruth is a Massey University Graduate, completing her degree in 1986. She took up an internship in Small Animal Surgery upon graduation and worked in the Massey University Small Animal clinic for two years, and completed her Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Studies in surgery and radiology.
She then worked in a busy small animal clinical practice in Papatoetoe, Auckland for six years, spending most of her time involved in hands-on surgery and radiology. Whilst here she studied for and gained Membership for the Australia and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Small Animal Surgery.
Ruth then decided to further pursue her interest in surgery and took up a residency at the University of Sydney Veterinary Teaching Hospital in 1995. She prepared for the Fellowship examinations in small animal surgery, and completed a Masters in Veterinary Clinical Studies.
The Franklin Vets (FVS) Referral Centre offered Ruth a position in September 1997, where Ruth worked over a period of six years. She obtained her Fellowship qualification in 1999, and was registered as a Specialist in Small Animal Surgery in New Zealand in 2000.
Subsequent to the closure of FVS's surgical referral service, Ruth established her own independent company "The Small Animal Surgeon Ltd" in 2003. She continues to use the site and facilities of the FVS Papakura clinic, but is self employed and Director of her company. She continues to offer surgical services including soft tissue, orthopaedic, oncologic and neurosurgery.
